Hello Carolyn,
I'm sure you'll be getting all kinds of interesting feedback after your appearance on CBC AM (my term) this morning, so you can just add this letter to the pile if you want to. Suffice to say I was intrigued and fascinated, and you are either quite brilliant or quite nuts, I haven't decided which (please forgive the candour, it's one of the freedoms of Cyberia). I'm not the type of person who would ever consider putting something as personal as a diary on the web, but if it helps you to air your personal thoughts and feelings in a forum such as this, then who am I to think otherwise? My own personal therapy happens to be playing piano and guitar, but when it comes down to it, that's really no different than what you're doing if it serves the same purpose. I certainly agree with you in that the Internet is a miraculous tool for breaking down international barriers, and, I believe, will one day be regarded as the main impetus for the rise of the post-national era.
When you were speaking with Bill this morning, you left the impression that you do very little else but communicate electronically. Is that really the case? Surely you must enjoy some pursuits that don't involve your trusty Mac (I'm just guessing, here)? How about travel? Music? Theatre? Sports? How do you balance e-world with the rest of your life? My only hope is that people watching this morning don't get the wrong idea about us computer types---and that we also know how to go outside and smell the roses... Many thanks for your contributions to an interesting discussion. Don't hesitate to write back if you can spare a moment or two. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on my comments.
Bruce Emerson
