Here I sit after so many years of being a-ethical and I realize that I am the most ethical person I know of. I consider almost every thing I come across, its ramifications for myself and others far into the future. I plan within the option-space to encompass as satisfyingly many long and short term goals of everyone who contributes to my well-being. I fail to fail when others need me. And yet I am easily dismissive so often. This is always based on reasons included int eh plan mentioned above. Easy dismissiveness comes from knowing the option-space and caring where each individual int he world ends within there.
It is remarkable to me that my unprogrammed designs to maximize my own selfish ends leads in the end (now) to a sophisticated form of ethcial consideration worthy of any philosophical brain. Fascinating indeed, and in this case, also quite logical.
You start off empowering their words by incorprating them into your own systems, into your cognitive landscape. You wander around their conceptual meaning aspects, necessary, sufficient, and of course, unnecessary.
You fit these pieces together in ways that truly make sense to you allowing room for future alteration, and learning about reality. It seems necessary to put one's own self first. This runs contrary to a large part of the underlying philosophy of the culture you are in. So be it. you empower the words they through at you - you are evil, mean, insane, confused. You empower yourself to walk in their talk - nice becomes frivolous. You sneer easioly if someone else values niceness.
You come to terms within in this ostrasized image and empower yourself through uniqueness and not being brain washed. The herd avoids you, and you enjoy this. True empowerment clicks in. With it, you begin to see the power trails that can be used to make your own goals come forth with success. This too now comes easily, and th anger at never having what you want goes away a bit. You come to terms with the newer niceness, kindness sudden generousity you are capable of without loss. A remarkable surge of energy occurs, and with your broad use of your terms and theirs, your empowered meanings, and their fossilized ones, you step into their world without a blush. You see no need for good treatment of others ofr you, unlike most, owe nothing to anyone for your current position. It is your own accomplishment.
You gather the forces unto your own decisions. Without having taken the normal course trodden to this point, you can act without fear when noone else can. The forces accumulate. And as they do, the givers of energy become something to treat well for your own self-interest. As contributers to your world accomplishments, they too must be treated as well as they can handle. As not all are self-empowered this leads to terrible conundrums. Treating a supporter badly because they will enjoy and appreciate this becomes necessary and yet contrary to their self-interest so it seems. Clearly not everyone has travelled to the point in themselves where they can make use of others' energies. You hold back energies to those who cannot accept them, offering instead stranger forms of payment to keep them functionally open to your goals. Many differing complexities arise in situations over the course of your goal achieving. Interatcions with others and surprisingly completely within society continue to increase in number.
No longer canit be said that you are ostracized or outcast. You are listened to by many, known and strangers alike. Your position is a seriously recognized one of power, and you get it.
Ethics are the set of considerations on how sentient beings ought to treat other beings. Since you have been engaged in such considerations quite extensively simply because you are trying to achive your own selfish ends, you wonder.. am I really not an ethical person?
It is clear, that I am incredibly ethical. From A to ~A. Almost magically. A reductio ad absurdum at least.
A discovery: Carolyn is incredibly ethical. And I know that while stuydying philosophy in school I strongly believed ethics was the one area that shouldn't bother to be studied. Now I understand the point.
